How can we not celebrate Sheila Crump Johnson? The first black cheerleader of her university. That special woman is not celebrated enough. And we are doing our celebration now.

Who is Sheila Crump Johnson?

Sheila is the woman co-founder of BET. Black Entertainment Television on as far back as 1980. It was founded on her birthday because of the need to celebrate Africans in the entertainment industry.

At the time, many if not all the music awards were won by non Africans. Therefore, the thirty-one years aged beauty and violinist, decided it was time for Africans to celebrate Africans. Of course, it was and is still an astronomical success. It was a long overdue initiative which we all embraced all over the world of Africans.

However, as the company grew as a global success, cracks began to appear in the marriage of our superwoman. Her husband of thirty years began an open affair with one of their staff. And though BET was doing great, her marriage was dissolved.

And she later sold BET itself for billions causing Shiela Crump Johnson, our amazon to make history again. As she became the first African female billionaire in the world, in the year 2000. You would think she would stop there.

Sheila Crump was not done and she opened another super successful business of hospitality. And that is the sprawling, high-end Salamander Hotels and Resorts. Plus a sports holding company which is managing three sports teams.

“That babe is on fire” is a song for her because even at seventy-six years old, she is revving for more. Or how else do you explain her presidency
