Surya Bonaly is a retired figure-skater and gymnast. And so at seventeen years old and set to conquer the world, Surya Bonaly experienced and fought back at the unhidden discrimination she encountered at a figure-skating competition in 1992.

Weeping out of disappointment at the unfairness of it all, Suzanne Bonaly’s daughter took off the silver medal in defiance. And made a silent resolution.

In actualization of her resolution, Ms. Bonaly became the European figure-skating champion for five consecutive years, 1991- 1995 and the French champion of same for nine consecutive years,1989-97.

She retired from figure-skating twenty-five years ago. She is still active as a motivational speaker, mentor and coach.
